Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of Wailea condos over the years, and honestly? This little unit at Ekahi 37E punches way above its weight class. When you first pull up to the complex, you might think “okay, this isn’t the flashiest spot on the strip” – and you’d be right. But that’s actually what makes it special.
The thing about Ekahi is that it sits right on Keawakapu Beach, which locals will tell you is one of the better stretches of sand in South Maui. Not as crowded as the Grand Wailea beach next door, but the same gorgeous water. Unit 37E specifically – and I mean this – has one of those views that makes you stop mid-conversation. You’re looking straight out at Molokini Crater and the outer islands, and during whale season (which runs longer than most people think, well into April), you’ll spot humpbacks from your lanai while drinking morning coffee. The unit itself is pretty straightforward – we’re talking about a 3-star property here, so don’t expect marble countertops or those fancy rainfall showers. But everything works, it’s clean, and whoever owns this particular unit actually cares about the details. Good kitchen knives, decent coffee maker, beach chairs that aren’t falling apart.
What really sold me on this place is the vibe. Ekahi attracts a lot of repeat visitors – you know, the kind of people who’ve figured out that you don’t need to drop $800 a night to have an amazing Maui experience. The pool area gets busy around 2 PM when families come back from beach time, but mornings are pretty peaceful. Parking is assigned and covered, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with those afternoon trade wind gusts that can sandblast your rental car. The complex is also perfectly positioned – you can walk to Shops at Wailea in about 15 minutes if you want to grab dinner at Pineapple Grill or just pick up groceries at Foodland. But honestly, with that kitchen and the barbecue grills scattered around the property, you might find yourself cooking more than eating out. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it gets at night. Even though you’re technically in the resort corridor, there’s something about Ekahi’s layout that buffers most of the noise from Wailea Alanui Drive. The only sounds you’ll really hear are waves and the occasional gecko chirping, which – let’s be honest – is exactly what you came to Hawaii for in the first place.
