Hotel Description
You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first saw this place listed – I mean, “homebase” in the name made it sound like some generic vacation rental. But after spending a week here, I get it now. This three-bedroom spot sits right in the thick of Hilo, and by that I mean you can actually walk to Cafe Pesto for dinner without getting soaked (which, let’s be real, is saying something in Hilo).
The air conditioning was the first thing that hit me – and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Most places in Hilo either don’t have AC or it sounds like a jet engine, but this one actually works without drowning out conversation. The bedrooms are spread out nicely too, so if you’re traveling with family or friends who have different sleep schedules (looking at you, early morning coffee drinkers), you won’t be stepping on each other. I spent most mornings on what I’d call the main living area – it’s got this lived-in comfort that vacation rentals usually fake, but this one feels genuine. The kitchen’s properly stocked, which matters when you hit up the Saturday farmers market on Mamo Street and come back with way too much tropical fruit and local honey.
What really sold me on the location was being able to walk to Liliuokalani Gardens in the evening – it’s maybe a ten-minute stroll, and you pass through actual neighborhoods instead of tourist strips. The parking situation is straightforward (thank god), and you’re close enough to downtown that you can hit up Hilo Bay Cafe or wander through the vintage shops without driving. But here’s the thing – you’re also positioned perfectly for day trips. Akaka Falls is maybe twenty minutes up the road, and if you want to drive up to Volcano National Park, you’re not fighting your way through Kona traffic first. The host was pretty responsive when we had a minor issue with the WiFi, and honestly, the whole check-in process was refreshingly simple. This isn’t some Instagram-perfect minimalist space, but it’s comfortable in that way that makes you want to stay an extra day instead of rushing off to the next spot on your itinerary.
The concierge service in Hawaii can arrange exclusive volcano helicopter tours, secure reservations at oceanfront luau restaurants, and organize personalized snorkeling adventures with marine biologists.

There are enough beds for 5 people. The kitchen is spacious for all of us to have a meal together. The grocery store I like is pretty close! And it’s not far from Hilo downtown.

House is like the photos, with a nice leaving room. Windows provide a nice air flow to cool off the house. Convenient access to main activities to do around Hilo: Volcanoes, Mauna Kea, botanical garden and water falls. Jade (the host) is super reactive and very good communication overall.

A very nice and cozy place—well-maintained and fully equipped.
The location is good, though it can be a bit noisy.
However, earplugs are thoughtfully provided in each room.Raelene from Australia (9/10)

The house Reminded me of simpler times and old school charm from when I was much younger . The house was very nice it was like a step back in time from the window seat bench to the French doors entrance foyer and the roomy atmosphere it was very relaxing. The kitchen and living areas where all large enough for a big family to be comfortable and not cramped. The host was very responsive to our requests and provided plenty of food, shopping and attraction options in the area.
We did not use the grill or the laundry appliances but it was great to know they was available if needed . Will definitely book here again . The kitchen was well stocked with appliances and tea and coffee options large refrigerator and kitchen table was also a major plusAnja from Switzerland (9/10)
