Artsy Cabin on Organic Farm Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Artsy Cabin on Organic Farm, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — but this three-star gem in Naalehu completely won me over. The setting is absolutely stunning, tucked away on Makaleka Road where you’re surrounded by working farmland and the kind of quiet that makes you realize how much city noise you’ve been carrying around. You know what struck me most? The way this place manages to feel both rustic and thoughtfully designed, like someone actually cared about creating something special rather than just another tourist trap.
The Farm Experience
This isn’t your typical hotel stay — you’re literally staying on an organic farm, and I mean that in the best possible way. The owners have created this incredible balance where you feel connected to the land without having to rough it. I loved waking up to the sounds of farm life and seeing the vegetables growing just steps from my room. The artistic touches throughout the property (hence the “artsy” in the name) add character without feeling forced or kitschy. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself taking photos of random corners because everything feels intentionally beautiful.
Location and Getting Around
Naalehu sits at the southern tip of the Big Island, and honestly, most people just drive through without stopping — which is their loss. From here, you’re perfectly positioned to explore some of Hawaii’s most dramatic landscapes without dealing with the crowds up north. The free parking on-site is a huge plus, especially since you’ll definitely want a car to explore the area. What I found interesting is how couples seem to really connect with this spot — the 8.9 location rating from couples makes total sense when you experience those sunset views together.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast situation here is actually pretty impressive for a place this size. They’ve got vegetarian and vegan options covered, which isn’t always easy to find in rural Hawaii, and the breakfast-to-go option is perfect when you want to catch an early sunrise or get a head start on exploring. I appreciated how they source ingredients locally — I mean, you’re on a farm, so it makes sense, but they really commit to that farm-to-table approach. The flavors are clean and fresh in a way that makes you realize how processed most hotel food usually is.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place special isn’t any single amenity — it’s the whole experience of disconnecting from the usual tourist circuit while still being comfortable. The 8.3 overall rating reflects what I experienced: solid accommodations with genuine character and hosts who actually care about your stay. You’re not going to find a spa or room service here, but you will find something increasingly rare — authenticity. The combination of artistic flair, sustainable farming, and that incredible Big Island landscape creates something that feels both peaceful and inspiring. If you’re looking for a cookie-cutter resort experience, this isn’t it, but if you want to actually experience Hawaii beyond the postcard version, this cabin delivers.

Carolina's place is a perfect base for exploring the southern part of the Big Island. Could've stayed longer! make sure you enjoy the stars at night!

The front porch, bidet, and shower were very nice. There were plenty of cooking necessities in the fridge and kitchen. Really convenient for very interesting places to visit on the south coast of the Big Island.

I loved the symphony that nature played…music for my heart and soul. I loved how natural and private all the “outdoor rooms” felt. It was truly a place I could rest and recharge. Had an amazing dream inspired by the land. Beautiful sunrise in the morning viewed through the French doors.

We thought the place was charming, and a nice change of pace for one night. We did not use the outdoor shower but the other outdoor plumbing facilities were fine, the cabin was cute, and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen seemed well stocked with cooking equipment. After reading some reviews mentioning mosquitos I was a little concerned because my husband is a mosquito magnet, but our hostess provided lots of coils etc and we had no problem. Carolina the hostess is also very charming and we enjoyed chatting with her…also appreciated some insider tips she gave us.

Carolina is an amazing host. We loved our stay in these quiet and comfy place in nature.
A wonderful off-grid experience in the middle of vegetation and animals. we really appreciated the delicious breakfast she made.Daryle from United States (9/10)
Artsy cabin is a great name for this place since Carolina is an artist and animal and nature lover. The view of the sky was amazing as we watched the full moon from our porch. The bed was very comfortable although high. Outdoor bathing was refreshing. The toilet is fine with a tiny walk. The breakfast was two homemade slices of Carolinas amazing sourdough bread. A top one was a farm fresh egg the other was our choice of either peanut butter or cheese. There was a French press to prepare our own coffee and juice was offered. Comfort not luxury here but Carolina is a sweet, accommodating, interesting woman.

The ocean view and night sky were amazing. The bed while high was fairly comfortable.

Carolina, the host, was warm, welcoming, and willing to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Though she offered, we declined the breakfast (even the free one the first day), as we rarely eat breakfast as long as we have coffee available, which we did. The French press coffee available in the outdoor kitchen was what we use at home and was very tasty. Carolina offered raw goat's milk, but we bought half and half at the local gas station/mini mart, as that is what I was used to. The outdoor covered sitting area was comfortable and a great place to read a book or check my emails and texts, thanks to the WiFi and comfy seating. The weather was good – warm with a lightly cool breeze.
The bed in the cottage has a comfortable mattress, plenty of pillows and light blankets (perfect for the temps in Naalehu). I'm an animal lover and my favorite are goats, so I was delighted to see one nearby when I left the cabin in the morning. And the chickens with their little chicks and the friendly dogs gave this place a "homey" atmosphere. And finally, for us, the location is ideal. We own a home that is vacant and for sale in Discovery Harbour, so this cabin was within walking distance to that, and is why I chose the cabin on Booking.com.Anna from United States (9/10)
Prepare to be delighted; Carolina is an incredible host, making the entire experience at her farm a wonderful time. I love the vegetation, outdoor/ open kitchen bath, and the cabin was very comfortable. Live the off grid experience! But! There's Wi-Fi 🙂 and it was also very good.
