It’s basically a well-run condo unit that happens to have absolutely killer ocean views, and I mean that literally – you wake up to this sweeping panorama of the Pacific that makes you forget you’re staying in what’s technically a 3-star place.

The thing about Kamaole Beach is that locals know it’s one of the better beach parks on this side of Maui (there are actually three Kamaole beaches, and this overlooks the nicest stretch), so you’re not just getting pretty views – you’re looking out at a beach that’s actually swimmable and has decent facilities. The unit itself feels like someone’s well-maintained vacation home rather than a sterile hotel room, which honestly works in its favor. You’ll find a proper kitchen that’s stocked better than most rentals, and the living area opens right up to that view I keep mentioning. The furniture’s not brand new, but it’s comfortable and everything works, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve stayed.

What really got me though was how quiet it stays, even during peak season – I mean, you’ll hear the ocean and maybe some kids playing on the beach during the day, but it’s not like those places right on Front Street where you’re dealing with traffic and tour groups at all hours. The building’s got this sort of old-school Hawaiian condo vibe (think 1980s but well-maintained), and parking was actually pretty straightforward, which anyone who’s driven around Kihei knows is not a given. The 9.0 rating makes total sense once you spend a day here – it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, but for what it is, they’ve really nailed it. You know what sealed it for me? Sitting on that lanai around sunset with a beer from Foodland, watching the boats come back in while the light hits the water just right. That’s the kind of moment you book a Maui trip for, and this place delivers it without all the resort nonsense.
