Hotel Description
You know what? I almost walked right past Tranquility Guest House the first time I was looking for it – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. It’s one of those unassuming places that doesn’t need a flashy sign or marble lobby to make an impression. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that actually lives up to the name. I mean, I’ve stayed at plenty of places that promise tranquility and deliver traffic noise, but this one gets it right.
The whole place feels like someone’s well-loved home that just happens to welcome travelers. The owner – I think her name was Margaret? – clearly has an eye for those little touches that make a difference. Fresh flowers in the common areas (real ones, not plastic), books scattered around that people have actually read, and this incredible breakfast nook where the morning light just pours in. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully simple – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s spotlessly clean. The beds are surprisingly comfortable for a 3-star place, and the shower pressure is actually decent, which you can never take for granted. There’s free WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the heating system doesn’t sound like a freight train, which honestly puts it ahead of some boutique hotels I’ve stayed at.
What really won me over was how genuine everything felt. The other guests weren’t rushing around with tour group schedules – it attracted this relaxed crowd of people who seemed to know something the rest of us were still figuring out. I ended up having the best conversation with a couple from Germany over breakfast about local hiking trails. Speaking of breakfast, it’s nothing elaborate but it hits the spot – proper coffee, fresh fruit, and these amazing homemade scones that I’m still thinking about months later. The 9.0 rating makes total sense when you realize it’s not trying to be something it’s not. Sometimes you want the full resort experience with concierge service and room service menus, but sometimes you just want a place that feels safe and comfortable and lets you actually unwind. This is definitely the latter, and it does it better than most places twice the price.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Hawaii at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak winter season when the islands host numerous cultural festivals and outdoor activities.

Well situated at a great elevation. The place was easy to find and good directions given beforehand. The room was absolutely wonderful with nice breezes, a lovely bathroom and a small kitchenette stocked with welcome treats. Love the espresso coffee maker too! I was greeted on arrival and made to feel very welcome. Some fruit (apple bananas and papaya) was given to me as well which was just delightful. Overall a fantastic stay – mahalo!! 😊

Wonderful and charming hosts! Very pleasant accommodation on second floor of a home. High on a hill in a quiet suburban neighborhood less than 5 miles from downtown Kona. Balcony offers stunning views and lovely landscaping makes you feel you are in a tropical treehouse. Lots of thoughtful touches in the room, which includes a walk in closet. For those with a car, this is a 5 star value as a base to explore what the Big Island has to offer.

Loved the fresh fruit from the garden and a bottle of prosecco which welcomed us when we arrived. The view is amazing and our gracious hosts provided all the equipment we needed to visit the beach.

Quiet and secluded, up away from the hustle and bustle of the oceanfront, but extremely easy to get to.
Enjoyed the “treehouse” feel being on the second floor, the birds and geckos making appearances, and the coffee maker ☺️
The hosts share fresh produce from their garden and are a great resource for local info. Extremely friendly.
